Make a move: Why more families are choosing a fresh start in Year 10

Wednesday, 27 May 2026

There are many reasons why a student may decide with their families to change schools during the second half of Year 10.

For some, it is about finding subjects and pathways much more closely align with their future goals, dreams and aspirations. For others, it is about seeking a stronger sense of belonging, creating new friendships or having a fresh start which often gathers momentum in a new school environment.

At St George’s Anglican Grammar School, Semester Two is becoming an increasingly popular entry point for students looking to make a positive change for Year 10 and beyond.

Our growing dual campus and location in the heart of the Perth CBD provides a unique Senior School experience for our Year 10 students. The school timetable is built around choice, flexibility and real-life learning. Students connect with the bustling vibe of the city to bring subjects to life and as a school of just over 600 students everyone is known and everyone matters at St George's. Joining us for Year 10 Semester Two is a smart choice for students looking for something new and it allows them to shape their future pathway that reflects who they are and where they want to go.

"We want young people to know that if their current situation is not quite right, there are numerous options available.''
— Mrs Tina Campbell, Principal

St George’s Principal, Mrs Tina Campbell, said Year 10 was often when young people started to think seriously about their future and what they needed to achieve within school to get there.

“We want young people to know that if their current situation is not quite right, there are numerous options available to them — and sometimes a fresh start can make all the difference,’’ Mrs Campbell said.

“A mid-year move gives students a fabulous opportunity to reset, refocus and enter Senior School with renewed direction. With a Year 10 cohort of just over 100 students, a Semester Two move means new students are quickly welcomed into the St George’s School family”.

St George’s offers more than 40 subjects across ATAR, APEx (Alternative Pathways Experience), Endorsed Programs and VET options. The city school is also linked to Murdoch University for Flexi Track High and UWA for a variety of micro credential subjects. The timetable is built around student choice and allows students to pursue goals that suit their strengths.

"We know that one size doesn't fit every student.''
— Dean of Teaching and Learning, Mr Anthony Bochrinis

“Students are increasingly looking for schools that provide flexibility, genuine support and pathways tailored to their individual needs and learner strengths,'' Dean of Teaching and Learning, Mr Anthony Bochrinis said.

"Students who join us beyond Year 7 are often pleasantly surprised to learn that our city school offers so much variety, such as Marine and Maritime Studies, Woodwork, Food Technology and Outdoor Education.

"There is something for everyone here at St George’s and I am proud of the multiple learning pathways available to our students in Year 11 & 12.

"With subject selections happening for our Year 10 students in Term Three, now is a perfect time to make the move and join us.”Mid-year Year 10 enrolments for Semester Two entry are now open.
